Public School Admissions Explained: Live Q&A with Jaco and Juané (Afrikaans) (FEDSAS Online Q&A)

With recent amendments to the Schools Act and conflicting guidance issued on admissions procedures, many schools are left  navigating uncertainty around their roles and responsibilities.

This session provides school leaders and governing bodies with an opportunity to gain clarity on key legal and practical aspects of learner admissions - including Grade R, documentation requirements, waiting lists, and capacity constraints.

Presented by Dr Jaco Deacon and Juané van der Merwe-Mocke, the webinar will include a structured Q&A session focused on the most common queries received from schools.  The session will unpack the following:

  • The legal framework governing admissions to public schools
  • The role and authority of the school governing body in admissions
  • The responsibilities of the Head of Department under the amended legal framework
  • Practical guidance on managing incomplete applications, prioritisation, and admission decisions.
  • What about Grade R
